The Rabbithole of Babel

The Rabbithole of Babel
The Tower of Babel by Peter Bruegel the Elder (1563)

To begin at the end, so far, of one stream of my ruminations on AI :

Buddhists teach about two kinds of bodhicitta – relative and absolute. (Here's a link to more about that.) They say that absolute is 'higher' than relative, but the two are in no sense antagonists. Hold that thought.

I was Googling Jude Currivan, because she's someone I consider a treasured virtual teacher. (Here's a link to more about her.) The most recent anything was on YouTube from just last October. (Here's that link.)

On 11 October 2025, Sadhguru Center for a Conscious Planet hosted Cosmologist and Co-founder of WholeWorld-View, Dr. Jude Currivan, and Sadhguru, as they engaged in a captivating conversation, exploring consciousness and the deepest mysteries of creation. The event was part of the two-day "Consciousness: Science, Spirituality & Global Impact" conference featuring renowned scientists, business leaders, academics, and philanthropists in insightful discussions with Sadhguru, toward the common goal of enhancing human wellbeing and crafting a Conscious Planet. The first thing that captivated me was their appearance – Currivan's casual go-to-conference nearly scruffy look, and Sadhguru's spectacularly sculpted dress. Next, my knee-jerk reaction to what seemed to be his occasional, quickly suppressed talking over her. He paid for the conference, but it's spiritual don'tcha know.

More substantially, while she talked about human efforts (science, for instance) that 'discover' and describe cosmic unity he seemed to dismiss every human enterprise of understanding. "You're not getting anywhere." What to do? "Go to India." Possibly "Come to India." Or maybe the free app will do it in 7 minutes a day.

Maybe the two-people-on-a-stage is an unavoidable setup for separation. I'm reminded of my Sufi teacher's Hochma's Table at which many voices are present. Mostly, I think of how all 'levels' of bodhicitta are respected; there's no 'looking down on' from any level of achievement. We claim spiritual progress, not spiritual perfection.

n.b., none of this, however skillful or unskillful, is AI, and that makes all the difference.
